The Bag That Carried No Children

We once warned our daughter:
“If you misbehave, the bag-man will take you.”

But when he finally came —
tired, silent, carrying hunger instead of nightmares —
she did not fear him.

She looked into his sack, searching for monsters,
and found only emptiness and need.
